How to Change Bluetooth Name on iPhone

If you have more than one Bluetooth device connected to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you may want to rename them. The name of the devices that appear in your list of available Bluetooth devices will be pulled from the name of each device. This means if you want to make it easier for other users or yourself to identify which device is which, it’s a good idea to change these names!

Here is how:

How to Change Bluetooth Name on iPhone

Open the Settings app

To rename your iPhone’s Bluetooth devices, open the Settings app. Navigate to the Bluetooth option and select it.

Press on the device you want to change its name and then enter a new one. For example, if you are renaming an AirPods case or car speaker, you could use “My AirPods Case” or “My Car Speaker.”

Tap Bluetooth

To rename a device:

Navigate to the Bluetooth settings screen. Tap Bluetooth in the menu that appears on the left side of your screen, then tap the blue “i” next to the device you want to rename (this should be an option if it is currently connected).

Tap on Name and type in a new name for this device (e.g., “Laptop” or “iPhone”). Tap Done in the upper right corner of your screen when finished changing names, then tap Save at bottom right of pop-up window and confirm again by tapping Save one more time

Tap the blue “i” next to the device you want to rename

To change the name of a device, you’ll need to tap on the “i” icon next to it. This will take you to its details page, where you can rename it by tapping on Name and typing in a new one. Once you’ve finished, tap Done in the upper right corner of your screen.

Tap on Name and type in a new name

To change the name of your Bluetooth device, tap on its name. You can type in a new name that is between 0 and 32 characters long. The characters must be letters, numbers, or underscores (_).

For example:

  • If you want to change the name “iPhone” to “Shark”, tap on iPhone’s name. Then type in Shark and tap Done.
  • If you want to change the contact name of a Bluetooth device from “Phone” to “My Phone,” tap on Phone’s contact name (this will appear as [Phone] near the top of your screen). Then type in My Phone and tap Done

Tap Done in the upper right corner of your screen

The name change is saved, and you can now go to another device and connect to it. There is no undo button for this action, so if you tap on Cancel instead of Done, all of the changes that you made will be lost. Thankfully, that’s only temporary as long as you don’t close out of Settings yet! You can also only change a device’s name if it isn’t currently connected with another Bluetooth device — otherwise, everything will get messed up even more than before!
